A SCARA (Selective Compliance Articulated Robot Arm) is a type of robot that moves in the X and Y directions, but moves little in the Z direction. SCARAs move quickly since there are less moving parts, which could be advantageous when interacting with balls. This type of robot arm is also reliable and can repeat the same task many times. The SCARAs reliability makes it a good type of robot arm to use, since consistency is one of the most important things in playing the game.

SCARA used to assemble parts in the industry

We thought a robot with SCARAs would be extremely effective for our 24" robot. With SCARAs, our 24" robot could still act as a wall-bot, but would also be able to interact with balls.
